Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET) is a pain management treatment for chronic pain in the lower back. The procedure uses heat to reduce the sensitivity of nerve fibers in the spinal disc. A catheter is positioned against the painful part of a disc. A thin wire is slowly heated which makes the fibers of the disc wall thicken and causes small tears to shrink.
