Lakeland, Florida’s Premier Pain Management Clinic

Careful attention to pain management is critical. As doctors learn more about the complexities of pain, it has become increasingly vital to have a physician with the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to treat pain.

Dr. Benito Torres is the founder of Novus Spine & Pain Center, the premier Pain Clinic in Lakeland, Florida. Dr. Torres graduated with honors from the Ohio University of Osteo Medicine in 2005, after completing his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Toledo, followed by an ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited 2-year Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Florida.

Dr. Torres has over 12 years of experience in Interventional Pain Management and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is Board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Torres is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of South Florida and Department of Neurology.

His extensive training and background give Dr. Torres a unique perspective on how to diagnose and treat pain, making Novus Spine & Pain Center a leader in the field of pain management.

Pain Conditions

Careful attention to pain management is critical to recovering from an illness or accident. Chronic pain can lead to overwhelming problems in everyday life; and in some cases, an active rehabilitation program can worsen pain. Therefore, it’s important to work closely with a pain expert while being treated for a serious illness, accident, surgery, or any other painful experience.

One of the pain conditions treated at Novus Spine & Pain Center is cancer pain. The pain cancer patients experience can be caused by the disease itself, the effect of cancer on the body, or from the discomfort caused by cancer treatments. It’s important, therefore, to seek immediate medical treatment from a pain specialist when experiencing cancer pain.

Low back pain is experienced by about 80 percent of adults (typically 30- to 60-years-old). The pain can range in intensity and usually goes away after a few days. However, if the pain does not subside, it may require specialized pain management. Fortunately, there are many effective ways to treat low back pain.

Furthermore, there are more than 200,000 cases of spinal stenosis every year in the U.S. Patients suffering from this narrowing of the spinal canal can experience numbness and back pain from the pressure on the spinal cord and nerves leading to the arms and legs. The condition can also cause sciatica, foot drop, difficulty standing or walking, even loss of bladder or bowel control.

Pain Treatments

Fortunately, there are many ways to treat pain. Many of these pain treatments can minimize and eliminate the need for opiates, which are so addictive.

One example of the specialized pain treatments offered by Novus Spine & Pain Center is adhesiolysis, which treats pain resulting from scar tissue.

And a new treatment option for certain pain conditions is medical marijuana, which is available for patients diagnosed with certain conditions like cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.
